Letting someone into your own home is different from walking into a practice. So that you know what you are agreeing to, here is how it works – step by step.
You briefly describe what it is about – by phone or through the contact form. If I am with a patient, just leave a message and I will call back. We clarify whether your town is within my service area and what the treatment would cost. This costs you nothing.
For the first appointment I set aside about an hour. We talk about your history, your symptoms and what you miss most in everyday life. Then we look at your home together – where are the trip hazards, where is a grab rail missing, how do you get into the bathroom. This assessment is the basis for everything that follows.
From that conversation we jointly derive what to work on. What matters to me is that the goals come from you, not from me: managing the stairs alone again. Buttoning your own shirt. Getting to the weekly market safely. We phrase them concretely enough that we can later check whether we are making progress.
After that we settle into a rhythm – often one or two appointments per week. I bring everything needed; you do not have to buy anything. Between appointments I give you small exercises that fit into your day and require no equipment.
At intervals we look at where you stand. What works well, we build on. What does not work, we change. When a goal is reached we set a new one – or we end the treatment. I do not keep anyone in therapy longer than makes sense.
You do not. Quite the opposite: I want to see how things normally look – that is the only way I can spot where the everyday difficulties actually are.
No. At most, put out any medical reports or a list of medications if you like. I bring everything else.
Very much so. Especially for the initial session it often helps to have someone there – two people take in more, and relatives can support the exercises later on.
Then say so. The initial session commits you to nothing further.
One call is enough. I can usually offer an appointment within one to two weeks – and you do not need a prescription for it.
